Employer case studies
Abdul Kayum, owner of the Old Delhi Eatery in Southampton used GJS to hire an marketing intern for his small business. We asked him a few questions about his experience of using the GJS service:
1. Your experience of using the GJS Website compared to traditional methods of recruitment?
“I found the website to be very easy and straightforward to use, and was impressed how quickly I could complete the recruitment process. I normally recruit by word of mouth however this approach does not always ensure the right calibre of candidate. Using the services of GJS I was able to attract the right person for my role.”
2. What you found to be the benefits of using GJS?
“The benefits of using GJS were definitely the high calibre of candidates who contacted me.”
3. What were the level of response you received from your job postings and the calibre of candidates who responded?
“All 15 applicants had impressive CVs, as they all demonstrated how their key skills could be applied to the role.”
4. What features/functions do you like about GJS?
“As a small business we are always looking at ways how we can save money and were very impressed how GJS exceeded our expectations. Running a business isn’t easy as there is a lot to do so I particularly liked being kept up-to-date with the email alerts as and when candidates applied. Overall what I like about GJS is the fact that it is a one-stop-shop for all my recruitment needs as I can save my job adverts and candidates CVs in one place.”
5. How can we improve our service?
“I can’t really fault the service as it caters for all my needs but it would be good if the applications were filtered down so I could view the CVs of the top 5 applicants.”
6. What advice would you provide candidates when applying for jobs?
“I would advise applicants to read through the job advert very carefully before applying for the role. As in my advert I did specify that lovers of Indian food to send me their CVs. Out of the applications it was only Christina who outlined her passion for Indian cuisine in her covering letter. Also, I received CVs via email and many applicants had email addresses as nick names which doesn’t always display professionalism.”
7. What is the value of hiring a graduate to your business?
“Hiring a graduate has proven to be invaluable for my business. Christina certainly has a professional edge which is so important in this competitive environment. It is easy to explain what I require which Christina delivers without fail and without any guidance.”
