With over hundreds of employers and around 60 opportunities advertised per week, GJS has something for everyone.

Graduate Gemma Davidson found her first job after her degree through the GJS website: After only being signed up for a few weeks I found my dream job advertised went for it and was hired! I found GJS was better than other websites because it didn't focus on London, where I definitely did not want to be.”

Graduate Jenny Boland found her job at The Sailors’ Society in Southampton through the GJS service: “I liked being able to control how often I was informed of new jobs, and choose different sectors of interest.  It’s also great that the range of employers is so huge and there are lots of job listings.”

Employer Top Tip:

"Include up-to-date contact details on CVs. Ensure candidates apply for jobs they really want, not blanket applications with standardised CVs."

Working for a small to medium sized company

GJS works with regional employers, with a particular focus on small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs). There are many definitions of a small to medium sized enterprise. The DTI definition states; a micro business is 0 - 9 employees, a small business is 10 - 49 employees and a medium sized business is 50 - 249 employees. In the UK more than 99% of all businesses fall into these categories. Statistics predict that there will be over 2 million jobs created in this sector over the next ten years. With traditional blue-chip recruiters downsizing their requirements and more students entering Higher Education this is the growth sector in graduate recruitment.

Small firms often suffer from misconceptions amongst graduates. There are however lots of opportunities to develop new skills, experience new challenges and make a strong impact on the success of the business.

Andrew Witham is a graduate from the University of Southampton who found his job at the company Symetrica through the GJS website:

“I was intrigued to work with a small company, because I wanted the experience where you could feel that you really knew what was going on in the whole company. I wanted to work somewhere I could contribute to the running and to how the company progresses and to really feel like you make a difference.”
