Recruitment Toolkit

Recruitment Toolkit Vacancies can't be filled successfully unless the job has been accurately defined in the first place. This is as helpful for you, the employer, as it is for potential candidates. Think about what skills, knowledge and experience you are looking for.

Writing graduate adverts

If you are a small to medium sized employer you may or may not have targeted your vacancy advertisements towards the graduate market. These pages are designed to give you some basic advice and guidance to help you attract talented graduates.

A good graduate job advertisement should:

  1. be concise but give enough information so candidates can decide whether to apply, eg gives the location and pay range
  2. clearly state the skills and experience needed based on your person specification and job description
  3. be attractively designed (within the limitations of the GJS advertise your vacancy pages)
  4. be non-discriminatory*
  5. explain how the applicants should respond to the advertisement, eg by sending a CV or completing an application form
  6. include an application deadline.
