Using a Careers Service / Private Consultant

Questions to ask:

  • What are their qualifications in careers advice, counselling and psychometric testing (if used)?
  • How long has the consultant/adviser been practicing, and what is their own careers background?
  • Will you be able to contact them for on-going support between guidance sessions?
  • What outputs, if any, will you receive from the process eg. a personalised report about your aptitudes and career preferences, help with drafting a new CV etc.
