Your experience and reasons for hiring an intern through the GJS scheme:

We were contacted by a member of the GJS team who informed us about the opportunity to take on graduate interns, as we were looking to take on additional staff/interns at this time the scheme sounded ideal for us. Artswork has been running internship schemes for many years so we felt well placed to take on some graduate interns.

What have been the benefits of hiring a graduate intern?

Our intern was keen to learn, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly, had excellent communication skills and pleasure to work with. As she had been at university she came with many invaluable skills that she could utilize and develop in her internship role.

How has the intern performed against your expectations?

Our interns performance in her role far exceeded my expectations.

Have you offered an extended contract/permanent position to the intern?

She has taken on another 6 month paid internship role within a different department at Artswork.

What advice would you provide candidates when applying for jobs in the future?

Understand the role and the organisation that they are applying for, research it in advance of applying for the job and before you go for an interview. Be willing to build on your role during your time at the organisation, you may start by doing smaller jobs but job roles develop and you will be given more responsibilities over time.

How can we (GJS) improve our service?

Perhaps by providing better support to graduates when they are applying for positions – help them with CV and covering letter writing as well as interview skills.
